As low as possible with max roof height in camp mode.

Long side popup with minimal box height for less drag.

This might the version we go for. Please note the rear doors (which I didn't add before in pure laziness). And as always, the pop top has hard side wall for better insulation.

Pop top setups

Here are a few pictures to show the two options of pop top I consider. Both are hard wall pop tops to get the best insulation and stability. A prototype has already been built on this popup and a bigger fully working setup will be test built on a T25 (Vanagon) this autumn.

The full roof pop allows a lower box height in total, but on the other hand there will not be full stand height until the popup is raised.

The front popup will be built with full height and is only to get better space in the alcove.

Right now the second option is the winner.

Also see the long side pop top here.

Ideas for an expedition camper

I want to make a camper on a raised double cabin. I think it will be a better vehicle and they are bad ass looking. To get the rest of the family on track (kids no problem, wife on the other hand) I started making a prototype in Rhino to show what I am aiming for. Finally it looks like we are on par here. :)

There will be bunker beds in the cabin, a bed on top (probably with a hard wall pop top) and there might even be a sofa that can be flipped into a bed as well. Kitchen, small bathroom and a good amount of storage. Parts of the interiour will be screw or latch fastened for easy take out. It will be easy to clean everything and also if a surf trip is ahead more storage can be made by leaving parts of the interiour at home.
The box and everything inside will be made with composite light weight constructions as a demo project for my company.
